What To Do If Your Phone Screen Is Broken?

If you’re anything like the millions of Americans who own a smartphone, breaking the screen can cause a bit of a panic. What do you do now? How can you survive the day? Where are you going to get a ride home without your Lyft app? Beyond these basic daily needs, there are a few important steps post-screen-cracking.

Back It Up

If you can still use your phone at all, back up important information. While the cracked screen may be the only visible damage, it’s hard to say what’s going on inside. Smartphones are made better and stronger these days, but that’s no reason to get lazy. Pull important contact information that you might need off of it immediately, too. You’ve likely only memorized a handful of phone numbers, after all!

Beyond that, make sure you have the ability to make any calls you need to. Anyone (like a partner or friend) who expects you to respond to text messages might need to get a call from you explaining your radio silence. You might need to hop into a local business to use their phone — do payphones even exist anymore?

Look Up Repair Options

It’s often the case that accidents like these aren’t covered under warranties or other protections. Either you’re out of the warranty period, or the way you broke the screen isn’t covered. Pull out the laptop and start searching for options. A good repair shop should be able to fix a broken screen quickly, inexpensively and expertly. After all, it’s not like you can drag your laptop around with you anytime you need directions. And who even owns a printer these days? So yes, fast phone screen repairs are most definitely important here.

Prevention Is Key

Alright, so you’ve had your phone screen replaced, hallelujah. Now’s the time to make sure this can’t happen again! Get a phone case if you don’t already have one. Upgrade your case if you do. Grab a screen protector. Consider attaching the thing to you with superglue. Okay, so maybe that last one is a bit overkill. But seriously, you may need to look at how you use and hold your phone to try to prevent a cracked screen again.
